5 Ways Blizzard could improve Hearthstone within a day

Darius Matuschak

I love Hearthstone. It's my favourite game since at least a year now, and hopefully many years to come. But there are some things that Hearthstone is missing right now, that it really grinds my gears. And I'm not talking about things that do take a lot of time to produce, like new expansions or a functioning tournament mode. I'm talking about things that, if Ben Brode would want them in Hearthstone today, they could probably be implemented into the game by tomorrow. So here are five things that would improve Hearthstone, that could be implemented within a day.

1) A way to only display your golden cards

I like golden cards. I really do. In fact, I'm aiming at having a full golden collection one day, and whenever I craft a card now, I always craft a golden copy of it. Subsequently, I do have a lot of golden cards, not a full collection, not even close to it, but a fair share. And I'd be really nice to just look at my golden collection, without having to flick through my entire card collection at once. It'd also be a great way for you heathens, who dust your golden cards, to make sure you didn't miss any when doing so. So a little button or a command that would enable us to only look at our golden cards, would be a nice addition for everyone really.

2) Bundles/Sales

When I started playing League of Legends, I vowed to never spend any money on skins. Two years later, and I've spend way too much money on a game that technically is free to play, and only on cosmetics as well! I currently own a whopping 124 skins (Yes, I counted), including many Legendary skins. Did I pay full price for any of them? Absolutely not. Out of the 124 skins, I bought exactly two for full price, the rest I bought when they were on sale or got them through a Mystery Gift.

Hearthstone, in a similar manner, should introduce sales or at least bundles, making cards and skins more affordable for players who don't want to spend much money on Hearthstone in general, and giving people who want a golden collection, like me, more dust for the buck. I have yet to buy any of the current Hearthstone skins, but if I could buy Magni and Medivh in a bundle for say 15€/16$, I'd buy that in an instant! Or how about Naxxramas & BRM, two expansions with their sales' numbers gradually declining, being bundled up for 35€ (Normally 44€) or 40$ (Normally 50$)? Or a Beginner's Pack, featuring ten booster packs of each expansion, for 25€/$? I'm sure a lot of people would take advantage of deals like these.

3) More Deckslots

I don't think I need to explain this one. Every time there's a glimpse of hope that there might be additional deckslots introduced to Hearthstone, the /r/hearthstone subreddit prays to RNGesus more than Amaz does before going to bed. It just doesn't make any sense that the amount of decks you can have is restricted to nine at a time. It's especially infuriating for content creators who like to try out new and whacky decks, fun tech and stuff alike. Blizzard, gibe more deckslots pls.

4) More/Creative Achievements

Let's face it, I and many other like achievements. It gives a sense of accomplishment, a sense that we have done something cool or tried something different in the game we like. Sadly, the achievements that Hearthstone has currently are very lackluster and basically work as a reward system for playing the game for 10 minutes. Oh, and there's an achievement for winning 1000 games. Is there an achievement for getting 1000 Arena wins? Nope. 1000 Ranked wins? Na. Getting 12 Wins in Arena? Nein.

Even the two achievements that do encourage thinking about cool archetypes, like Murlocs & Pirates, seem a bit boring. I made two mockup-achievements which you can see down below, which should display the potential Hearthstone achievements could have. More ideas include: "Baaa: Kill your opponent with a sheep", "MRGLRGLRGL: Summon 100 Murlocs" or "Neverlucky: Get a Wisp out of an Unstable Portal". As you can see, the possibilities are endless and fun as well. Blizzard, especially the people who work at Hearthstone, love fun. So why not make the Hearthstone Achievements a bit more fun as well?

5) An Actual Achievement/Progress tracker

I already have a lot of the obtainable achievements. I think. I don't know, because Hearthstone doesn't have an achievement tracker. Why it doesn't is beyond me, it's such a basic thing really. It took me about 10 minutes to create the mockup-achievement tracker that I put down below, and it doesn't need to be this way either, but I think it'd be pretty cool to take a look at what achievements you already have and which Legendaries you have already faced. Maybe it could give a bit more context to the lore of these characters, that have shaped the world of World of Warcraft, making them more appealing to people who play Hearthstone but have never touched WoW before. It'd just be a nice little addition to the game, that takes practically no time to implement, but would be very motivating for many players.
